about
Surrey Arts, Big Leaf Foundation and the Academy of Contemporary Music joined forces to record a Festive Themed Single (in just one day!) on Sunday 9 December 2018. It was for anyone aged 8 and above who enjoys music and shares our belief in the importance of community. No musical experience was necessary and over 75 participants contributed to the track.
Why a Festive single?
Beyond the food, lights, drink, intensive shopping and tinsel, at its heart, this festive season is about the spirit of giving and receiving, of family and of helping others. And we think this is a perfect time of year to come together, have fun and celebrate everything we have in common, as well as all the fascinating things that make us unique.
100% OF PROFIT MADE FROM THIS SINGLE WILL GO TO 'THE BIG LEAF FOUNDATION' TO FUND PROJECTS THAT BRING TOGETHER REFUGEES AND HOST COMMUNITIES THROUGH MUSIC MAKING.
lyrics
I return to these streets after years away
Much is the same, but so much has changed
Voices and smells float from far away lands
They’re praying to God in ways I don’t understand
Tears in the snow on the streets that I’m walking
The violence is deafening yet no one is talking
A mother cries in the darkness of night
Another life reduced to candle light
I do believe I can change
I do believe we’re all the same
I do believe in miracles today
An icy wind bites from the north to the south
And words that build walls, they fall from it’s mouth
But a voice that is greater with no need scream
Says whatever you believe you’ve a place next to me
(So let’s sing together, let’s sing together, let’s sing together now)
When we sing together
We are free forever
Whatever you believe come and sing with me
Whatever you believe you gotta friend in me
From the music you like tor the shoes on your feet
See we're all tryna make ends meet
N I mean all over the world
From the North to the South to the West to the East
Longitude or latitude I'm comin with this attitude
I got my life n I'm filled with gratitude
Absolute love and that is an attribute
So let's sing together
Take my hand as we tread through the weather
N hate can never ever sever that tether
I write this letter in the hope that we as a human race get better
So whatever you believe just know you'll always find a friend in me
I do believe I can change
I do believe we’re all the same I do believe in miracles today
The season a time so much joy plenty of food & gifts in lines.
But where do you go when you have no home, to find a new one, you have to roam.
If they find hope, we can find a change, nothing ever remains the same. Open your hearts, open your homes,
Peace & Love.
The ultimate gifts.
When we sing together
We are free forever
Whatever you believe come and sing with me
